How it works

How to record your screen

  1. Choose the sound

    Pick a microphone for your voice or record without one. In Chrome and Edge you can also add the sound of a browser tab.

  2. Pick what to record

    Press Start recording and choose a screen, a window or a tab. Allow the microphone if the browser asks, and recording starts after a three-second countdown.

  3. Stop and download

    Press Stop recording on this page or stop sharing in your browser. Watch the result and download the file to your computer.

Built-in recorders

Record the screen without a browser

Phones and tablets do not let websites record the screen, but every major system has a recorder of its own.

Mac

Press Shift-Command-5 and choose Record Entire Screen or Record Selected Portion in the toolbar. Open Options to pick a microphone, then click Record. To stop, click the Stop button in the menu bar or press Command-Control-Esc. The recording is saved to the desktop.

Windows

In Windows 11, open Snipping Tool, select Record and then New, or press Windows logo key + Shift + R. Select an area, press Start, and press Stop when you are done. The MP4 is saved to Screen Recordings in the Videos folder. For games and apps, Xbox Game Bar records with Windows logo key + Alt + R.

iPhone and iPad

Open Control Center and tap Screen Recording. If the button is missing, touch and hold the background, tap Add a Control and choose Screen Recording. To record your voice, touch and hold the button and turn on Microphone. Recording starts after a three-second countdown. To stop, tap the red indicator at the top of the screen and then the stop button. The video is saved to Photos.

Android

Swipe down twice from the top of the screen and tap Screen record. If the tile is missing, tap Edit and add it to Quick Settings. Choose whether to record audio, tap Start, and stop from the notification. The video appears in the Photos app.

Chromebook

Press Shift + Ctrl + Show windows and select Screen record. Choose the full screen, a part of it or a window, and turn on the microphone in the settings if you want your voice. Stop with the button at the bottom right or with Search + Shift + X. The file is saved to Downloads.

Yes. The recorder is free, works without an account and adds no watermark to your video.
No. Your browser records the screen and saves the file on your computer. The video is not sent to our servers or anywhere else, so it stays private until you share it yourself.
Use Chrome or Edge and turn on audio sharing in the window where you choose what to record. A browser tab can share its sound on any computer, and on Windows and ChromeOS the whole screen can too. Firefox and Safari record only the microphone.
Firefox records video only as WebM. After recording, press Convert to MP4 and your browser converts the file on your computer. Chrome and Safari save MP4 straight away.
Yes. If ffmpeg is installed on your computer, run ffmpeg -i recording.webm -c:v libx264 -c:a aac recording.mp4 in a terminal. You do not need it for this recorder, because the page can convert to MP4 in your browser.
Not from a website. Phones and tablets do not allow it, but iPhone, iPad and Android have a screen recorder of their own, and the steps are above.
Current desktop versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. If something is missing in your browser, the recorder says so before you start.
