What gets checked

What the two tests check

The equipment check goes step by step and names every problem it finds.

Browser and device

Your browser and its version, the operating system, and whether the processor and memory are enough for live video.

Access to servers

A webinar needs a channel for chat and controls, one for audio and video, and a fallback route. A VPN or a firewall can block one while websites still open.

Internet speed and connection stability

Download and upload are measured, then a steady packet stream at a webinar's rate shows lost packets, uneven arrival and delay under load.

Playback and performance

Your device encodes and decodes a short 720p video to show whether the processor keeps up with live video.

Sound, microphone and camera

You hear a melody, record five seconds and listen back, then see yourself on camera. A quiet, distorted or noisy microphone and a dark picture are flagged.

Broadcast test

For ten seconds your camera and microphone go to the server and straight back, so you see what viewers will see. Nothing is recorded.

Test for attendees

The attendees tab measures download speed, ping and jitter and says what video the connection can handle.

FAQ

When a check does not pass

What the results mean and where to find help for each problem

What do the three results mean?

“You are ready for the webinar” means nothing needs changing. “You can join, but a few things need attention” means it will work, and “What to do” lists the fixes. “Some problems will get in the way of the webinar” means a step failed, so follow its advice and check again.

The check cannot see my camera or microphone

Allow access when the browser asks, or click the lock icon next to the address bar, and close Zoom, Teams or any program holding the device. On a Mac the system must allow the browser too, see How to allow camera and microphone access on a Mac. Permissions in the room are in Going on air (the Speak button and browser permissions), and an external camera in Setting up and using an external USB camera.

I do not hear the melody or my microphone sounds bad

Check the output device in the step, the volume and a phone's silent mode, then Sound settings in your operating system. A headset cuts background noise and prevents echo, see What to do if there is an echo during a webinar.

Internet speed or stability is marked as a problem

Use a cable instead of Wi-Fi if you can and pause other downloads and calls. See Internet speed for the webinar room and What to do when video freezes or attendees drop out.

Access to servers or the broadcast test fails

A VPN or a company firewall is the usual reason, so try once without the VPN. The room reroutes your stream by itself, see Broadcasting from a corporate network. For an old browser or WebRTC that is off, see Technical requirements and How to enable WebRTC in your browser.

The check stopped halfway

Browsers slow down background tabs, so keep this tab visible and start again. The room works the same way, see Your video freezes for the audience while your tab is hidden.

What is the report code for?

Save the report at the end and send the code to our support team in the chat, so they see the same measurements you did. Video and sound are never saved.

Which test should attendees take?

Attendees who only watch and chat need the “For attendees” tab. If you will speak on camera, take the “For presenters” check too. The Webinar attendee guide explains how to join.
